Helios DAS enhances the production economics in unconventionals when used in combination with traditional Distributed Temperature Sensors (DTS) and microseismic monitoring. By providing accurate and actionable intelligence to well operators, Helios DAS enables each frac treatment to be optimised, reducing the production cost for each well and enabling more wells to remain economically viable, even in a depressed market.

Without Helios DAS operators are reliant on surface data such as pressure and flow rate. This information does not allow operators to monitor a hydraulic fracture operation in real-time from within the well or determine what is actually occurring downhole.

Helios DAS provides a continuous acoustic profile of the well and can detect a full range well integrity events. This includes casing breaches, production tubing leaks, bypass leaks and cement casing fractures. Helios DAS-enabled production profiling may allow Operators to determine the fluid flow in a well. Identifying the combination of fluid phases that are present, their hold-ups and the flow-rates enables operators to isolate water production and enhance the production of oil and gas.

Sand production is a very expensive problem when it occurs, causing damage to completions, equipment and potentially jeopardising the entire well where extreme sand ingress makes a well unserviceable. Helios DAS is an essential diagnostic tool for operators to mitigate these risks by providing real-time alerts that sand is being produced.

Helios DAS can detect the specific acoustic signatures caused by sand production, allowing operators to see the exact location of where sand is entering the well from the producing formations in real-time. This gives operators the opportunity to take remedial action or to manage the well by lowering flow rates to stop sand production.

Where fibre is permanently installed in the well Helios DAS can provide a continuous feedback loop of where sand is being produced - enabling flow rates to be optimised, or potentially for certain sections to be closed off as required.
